By Melissa Antoinette Garza. This was one of the movies I would watch on Sunday afternoons as a child during a local program called Spine Tinglers. When I was really young this movie horrified me. Ah, the run-in with the old man, another wonderful thematic moment. As you say, it's a depiction of youth versus the old, and certainly of youth's advantage. All Buzz has to do is puff up his chest and say things loudly to get the guy fleeing, a "retreating clown," which has always struck me as a particularly sad and deeply pathetic sight.
Based on Carl Hiaasen 's novel of the same name , the film centers on an FBI secretary-turned- stripper who becomes involved in both a child-custody dispute and corrupt politics. Striptease was released theatrically on June 28, , by Columbia Pictures and was universally panned by critics, and won several Golden Raspberry Awards , including Worst Picture. Nevertheless, it was widely considered a failure mostly because of its under-performance domestically and failing to meet expectations. The subsequent debacle of the film as well as contempt of her performance marked a massive downturn in her career.
